The project is part of the East Coast Road from Chennai with Kanyakumari and an important corridor for enhanced connectivity with ports such as Chennai, Tuticorin, Puducherry and Cuddalore.

The stretch also improves access to several educational institutions, pilgrim centres & heritage structures and brings them closer to Indian and international tourists.

Four-laning of the highway shall reduce travel time by about half an hour and enhance faster movement of goods to ports and district headquarters.

Avenue plantations along the roadside is expected to reduce air pollution in the vicinity, improve natural vegetation and enable reduction in overall carbon footprint.
